Underwater Tragedy

Scott is a fish lover, and has brought his love of them into our home. Example: remember Ben the Beta? Well recently he got a fish tank from Jesse, a guy he works with, and was SO excited about it. He even had me move all my decorations on the table in the front room around so that we could make room for the new tank. That same day we went and bought 4 new additions to our family. I would tell you what kind of fish they were, but I don't think I ever really knew. Scott is the fish person in the family, I just thought they looked cool.

The first couple of days went well, besides the fact that one of the fish thought it was cool to beat up the other fish, and then they would all hide behind the filter, or dig holes in the rocks below a nice little bridge we bought. The next few days were not quite so fantastic. I don't know what it is about us and keeping fish alive, but one night when Scott got home, 3 out of the 4 fish that we had gotten just a few days before had gone belly up and joined the fish heavens. Needless to say, it was not the happiest night in the McCage home. Somehow we recovered enough to make it to work/school the next day, just to come home and find that the 4th and final new fish probably died of loneliness and a broken heart from being all alone and he, too, joined his friends in fish heaven. :(

You would think it couldn't get any worse, right? But wait... there's more. We got over the loss of the fish and were able to have a great Thanksgiving break with family in the frozen iceland of Rexburg, ID. Great food, great company, and we even got to see Harry Potter 7 a second time. Good weekend! But when we got home, we found that Ben the Beta, who has had some struggles but has survived well up to this point, was also dead. WHAT?! I swear, we are not intentional fish killers! But apparently we don't have the magic touch when it comes to keeping fish happy and alive. Needless to say, I think we are going to give the fish thing a rest for a while. If we decide to someday try and defy the odds and get another fish, I will make sure to keep you posted.
